The Listener: The Holy Spirit has given us some inspiring new insights regarding intercessory prayer. Just before His ascension, Jesus told His disciples to remain in Jerusalem to wait for the promise of the Father (Acts 1:4 NKJV). In the next few verses Jesus made it clear that the Promise of the Father was to send the Holy Spirit to Believers; most translations say to come “upon” or “on” or “to” Believers. Those in the Upper Room would have been familiar with The Holy Spirit’s having come upon Old Testament prophets as well as on Moses, David and others. When the disciples, after receiving their instructions from Jesus, returned to Jerusalem, to the Upper Room, they all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren (verse 14). Then, in the second chapter of Acts we are blessed to read of the Glorious Arrival of the Holy Spirit and His indwelling the Believers who had waited and prayed, interceding for the release of the Promise of the Father. This is a very familiar portion of Scripture. It provides strong affirmation that intercession releases God’s promises and is a vital aspect of His plan. It also gives us wonderfully inspiring insight regarding the nature of God’s answers to intercessory prayer. The Promise of the Father was that He would send the Holy Spirit to Believers, but He went far beyond the stated Promise by sending the Holy Spirit to INDWELL Believers. Surely none of those praying in the Upper Room would have dared to pray such a prayer, would have even thought that any human being, could be indwelt by divinity, by the Third Person of the Holy Trinity. God’s Blessings are Amazing. His Love and Provision for us goes far beyond anything that we can imagine…to infinity and beyond.! Some of you may find that Buzz Lightyear phrase inappropriate, but Holy Spirit gave it to me months ago and never told me where to use it. This morning He instructed me to close with it and to explain that the Intimacy He seeks with you will enable you to receive deep insights and revelation as well as moments of His wonderful humor.
